In 2005, the American Center for Philanthropy entered into a partnership with a volunteer, donor-focused organization called 5th Bridge. The mission of 5th Bridge is to enhance individual and community life by encouraging the habits of volunteerism and philanthropy. The Board saw a connection in that ACP Charitable Gift Funds offer donors an opportunity to share the gift of their monetary resources, while 5th Bridge offers & challenges donors with an opportunity to share the resource and gift of their time (thus, donor-focused).
While 5th Bridge was founded in Northfield, Minnesota, and its name has a Northfield connection (there are four bridges across the Cannon River in the heart of Northfield & the community volunteer effort represents the fifth bridge, helping further connect the community) the organization’s structure and model for implementation were designed such that they can be duplicated in virtually any community.
